Acipayam sheep is a dual-purpose breed that produces high yield meat and a fair amount of wool.
A breed which was developed upon crossing Assaf sheep with Awassi and Daglic ewes.
Acipayam is the most domesticated breed of sheep in Turkey.
Acipayam Sheep Characteristics
Acipayam sheep are white in color, even the wool is white. Though they are medium-sized sheep breeds, meat production is at the finest quality and quantity.
The height at the withers is 62 cm, which is considered as the medium-sized sheep.
Mature weight of Rams is around 65 kg (140 lb) and ewes weigh around 60 kg (130 lb)
The life span of the Acipayam breed is around 10 years.
The lambs are set for slaughterhouse at around 6 months, which will yield around 30 kg.
The fast growth of lambs brings a lot of profit to their owners.
Fully grown adult Rams are sent to slaughterhouse around 60 kgs. Females are usually kept for 2 to 3 cycles of kidding.

Adult ewe can produce milk around 200 days. They are not big milk yielders. Will be sufficient for their lamb.
Whole milk produced during the complete lactation period is around 170 kg by the ewe.
Acipayam sheep are mainly found in the Ege region of Turkey.
To keep the Acipayam breed intact, selective breeding is taking place in Turkey.
Being a dual-purpose (meat and wool) breed, the most sought after breed in Turkey.
Both Ram and ewe are polled (no horns).
