Swedish Blue duck which is also known as Blue Swedish duck is a breed of domestic duck produced by most farmers at Pomerania.
The Swedish Blue duck was created mainly as a utility bird. The strain is suitable for both the eggs and meat creation.
Swedish duck facts
The Swedish Blue duck is a moderate-sized snowball strain. It is much like the Rouen ducks in size.
It is a gorgeous bird and has a stunning appearance with lovely blackheads, white bibs, and a lovely light blue figure. Their body is similar to the Pekin duck.
Their white-colored bibs run from under the bill halfway down the breastfeeding. The head is of medium length. Additionally, there are some white on the wings of Blue duck that produces a very eye appealing color contrast with the blue color.
The plumage of the two drakes and ducks is a uniform bluish slate. Along with the Blue duck’s bottoms have a brownish color offering them an upright stance.
The Swedish Blue drakes’ head has a slightly darker coloration compared to their body, and also their plumage includes a glistening green hint. Along with charge and the head of these ducks are their body’s identical slate shade.
The legs of drakes and both Swedish Blue duck are reddish-brown, with irregular markers of greyish-black. The drakes are heavier than the studs.

The normal body weight of this Swedish Blue duck is about 2.5 to 3.5 kg, and the average body weight of the drake is about 3 to 4 kg.
Are blue Swedish ducks friendly?
Swedish Blue ducks are extremely calm and friendly creatures, and they are among the heartiest of all the duck breeds.
They are considered as ducks for the beginners. They are suitable for both meat and eggs production.
Ducks will lay about 100-150 each year. The egg color of the Swedish Blue snowball is white, blue, green or blue lavender.
The breed is a very good forager and farming that is good for free-range. However they can not do in confinement. They are quite a breed that is noisy.
The ducks are in a loudly crying type quack. While the drakes have a low pitched tone but has the potential to increase the quack to equal the ducks’ loudness.
The Blue duck is a slow maturing breed, however, they supply meat.
They are quite hardy birds and on ordinary can endure for 8-12 years. The ducks tend to be broody.
Origin
It is a pretty old duck breed and developed in the year of 1835. Pomerania was a part of this Sweden at the time, but now it is known as modern northeast Germany, Holland, and Belgium.
Even the Swedish Blue snowball is similar in dimension to the Rouen ducks, plus they have a mallard ancestry.
The breed was mainly developed for domestic uses, such as for meat and egg production.
They are also fantastic as decorative ducks and as pets. The Swedish Blue storm was initially imported into the USA in the late 1800s. And it had been accepted into the American Poultry Association’s Standard of Perfection in 1904.
Currently, it is considered to be an endangered snowball strain.
And the strain has been recorded on the ‘View’ list by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy.
