Are Sultan chickens endangered?

The Sultan chicken is a really old breed. It’s a decorative breed.

It also called Serai Tavuk and is referred to as the Serai Taook in the native region of it.

The breed is remarkably popular in Turkey. Sultan chickens are decorative and the birds were also a favorite of Royalty for keeping in their gardens and were known as Sultans Fowl.

Physical Characteristics of Sultan Chicken

Sultan chicken is a little, beautiful, completely feathered bird.

It has a special appearance with lovely plumage.

It is plumage that is decorative contains; large crests tails, square-foot feathering, and beards. They have red-colored combs that are V-Shaped and smaller.

Their combs are almost entirely hidden under feathering. The throat has a plumage which provides a look to the mind. They have smaller sized, bright red wattles and earlobes.

The head has a muff, three clumps of feathers which produce a beard and a very big, globular crest.

Sultan chicken has reddish face, and it’s but one of a minority of chicken breeds which contains five toes on each foot.

The breed looks in three forms; White, Blue and Black. But the White number is well known and the most popular.

Sultan chicken breed also includes a bantam model.

On an average, regular Sultan roosters weight about 2.75 kg and hens roughly 1.8 kg. Along with also the bantam roosters weight approximately 0.74 kg and hens approximately 0.625 kg.

Temperament

Sultan chicken is a really calm, docile and friendly bird. Both females and males are extremely simple to tame and manage.

And also very great as backyard birds and pets. They aren’t one of the foragers, and do well in confinement.

They require particular care and dry bedding for protecting their intricate feathering, especially on their own feet.

Sultan hens are not among the egg whites that are good, and do not go broody.

Hens lay moderate-sized eggs. The girls are slow to require a long time for developing, and growing.

They’re great fliers and fences are must for keeping them restricted.

The Sultan chicken had a reputation for being a fantastic meat bird, with the flesh and the breast.

History

The strain first arrived in England in 1854. And came to America.

The breed was admitted into the Standard of Perfection of it in 1874 and was first recognized by the American Poultry Association.

Nowadays Sultan chicken is a very rare breed and used for exhibit.

It is recorded as Crucial on the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy’s Conservation Priority List.
