The Ukrainian Grey cattle is a multipurpose breed in Ukraine. It’s an ancient breed of cattle, which descended from steppe cows.
Along with the strain is similar to some other cattle breeds like the Grey cattle and the Podolica cows of Italy.
The Ukrainian Grey cattle can also be known by some other names such as Ukrainian Grey Steppe, Seraya ukrain skaya, Seroukrainskaya, Ukrainian Steppe Cattle or Ukrainian: Сіра українська порода, Sira ukrayin’ska.
The strain has been dispersed over the majority of Ukraine from the previous century.
Ukrainian Grey cattle breed completely satisfied the requirements of small peasant farms due to the hardiness, small nutritional requirements of it, great working skills and grazing abilities.
The numbers of this cattle breed are decreasing. And their numbers are reduced at approximately one thousand head because of the 1980s or much less.
It’s a rare breed, These days. It’s included in the Slow Food Ark of Taste.
Ukrainian Grey cattle breed information
As the name implies, the Grey cows are grey or light-grey in color and the bulls have a neck, legs, and chest.

They are large-sized creatures having well-developed muscles. They’re tall, rather long-bodied and leggy animals.
Both cows and bulls have horns with black horn hints. Bodyweight of the Ukrainian Grey bulls is roughly 1100 kg.
And the cows on typical weight approximately 750 kg.

Ukrainian Grey cattle are multi-purpose animals. They are used for both meat and milk production. And employed as draft animals.
The Ukrainian Grey cows are very hardy animals.
They are great for meat and also have been employed for meat for a long time. The cows are also milk producers.
On average a cow’s create about 2500 – 2900 liters of milk per lactation.
Their milk is of amazing quality and contains about 4.23-4.26 percent fat.
