The Ayam Cemani chicken really is a modern and relatively fresh breed of poultry. The breed is out of Indonesia and is pretty rare. Very little is understood about the strain.
The word”Ayam” means chicken in Bahasa Indonesia, and”Cemani” is really a village close to the central Javanese town of Solo, where this chicken strain originates from.

The Ayam Cemani poultry is little to medium sized bird with fully black appearance. Comb, their beak, tongue, wattles are black. Internal organs, bones and Their meat are black.
Their color occurs as a consequence of excess pigmentation of the cells, brought on by a condition called fibromelanosis. The identical gene is also found in some fowl breeds that were black.
Blood of those Ayam Cemani chicken is not black, it is ordinary but unexpectedly dark.
The hens are coating of cream colored eggs using a pink hue, and their eggs weight a mean of 45 g.
The hens are not great setters and rarely hatch their own brood. The normal weight of this rooster ranges from 2 to 2.5 kg.
And the hens on an average weight approximately 1.5 to 2 kg.
As the Ayam Cemani chicken breed is a rare and relatively new breed, so a very little is known concerning the strain. However, they are considered to be a rather active and hardy strain of poultry. They are very highly appreciated. Since local folks feel that these birds possess mysterious powers. Currently the strain is raised for meat production purpose or decorative.
The Ayam Cemani poultry has probably been used for centuries for religious and mysterious function in the island of Java, Indonesia.
The strain was clarified by dutch colonial settlers and they first imported to Europe. The breed was imported from the 1998 by Dutch breeder Jan Steverink.
It’s thought that Ayam Cemani might have been brought to Europe from Dutch seamen.
The Ayam Cemani poultry breed contains a dominant gene which leads to hyperpigmentation (Fibromelanosis).
And hyperpigmentation leaves the chickens entirely black. Their feathers, beak, and organs all are black.
Presently, these birds are stored from the Netherlands, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia. Along with the Ayam Cemani chicken has a value in Indonesia, since it is believed they possess mystical powers.
