The Elizabeth duck is a breed of domestic duck. It’s a pretty new breed that was created from Merrylands, New South Wales, Australia in 1972.

The breed named after his wife, Ann Elizabeth Ruting, and was created by Lance Ruting. Lance Ruting created the Elizabeth duck involving Rouen Claire and Mallard duck. His aim was to produce a fast-growing and good egg layer breed.

The strain is not widely available around the world. At present, it is only bred and available in Australia and New Zealand. Elizabeth duck is classified as endangered by the Rare Breeds Trust of Australia.

Elizabeth duck breed information

Elizabeth duck is a small-sized meat duck breed that is lovely. It’s similarities to the Welsh Harlequin in the rainbow.

Nevertheless, it is a more stocky bird than the Welsh Harlequin duck and smaller. The Elizabeth ducks come in only one color and they are short with a wide chest and breast.

They’ve curved legs that were marginally short and head. Elizabeth drakes have a shiny green mind that ends at a ring.

They have claret chest feathers and bordered in lotion. On the trunk, the drakes have charcoal grey feathers ringed with white. They have rear rump and boring tail.

Though the ducks/females are of fawn-colored with brown marks in the middle of every feather on the majority of their physique.

The ducks have blue-green flight feathers that are secondary and primary flight feathers that are off-white spotted with grey. And the two genders and drakes have dark brown eyes , bronze legs and gray bills.

On average Elizabeth, duck weighs roughly 1.2 to 1.6 kg. And drakes weight about 1.6 to 1.8 kg.

The Elizabeth duck was created as a tiny, fast-growing meat duck strain. It’s a good egg layer.

In Australia, it is classed as an ornamental duck, although currently the strain is kept as a fascination breed.

The Elizabeth ducks are somewhat smaller in proportion. They are stocky birds with a docile temperament.

They are comparatively calm in nature and friendly. They make good pets.
