Even the Girgentana goat is a domestic goat breed utilized for its production of the milk. It’s native to the province of Agrigento, in the southern portion of the Mediterranean island of Sicily.
The Girgentana goat is a beautiful creature. It’s a primarily white coat with hair around the head and throat. Even the Girgentana goats have characteristics burst, twisted into a coil form. They have the two bucks, and a long beard and does have sized erect ears.
The height of the bucks is approximately 80 cm for the does, and roughly 85 cm. The bucks on weight about 65 kg and does is approximately 45 kg.
Girgentana goat benefits
Girgentana goat is primarily raised for milk production.
Girgentana goats are hardy, lively and well accommodated to it’s source place.
They are excellent milk producers. And on average, a doe could create about 400 liters of milk each year.
The origins of the Girgentana goat breed is unknown. It has been suggested that they are in fundamental South Asia Kashmir, northern Afghanistan, and Balochistan.
Johann Wolfgang Amschler identified it with the Ram in a Thicket statue excavated along with Capra Prisca from Leonard Woolley in 1927.
The hypothesis of Leopold Adametz that it’s descended in your markhor, Capra falconeri, also a species of Central Asian goat-antelope, seems to be generally accepted by zoologists.
The animals could have been introduced into Sicily in, or about 700 BC the eighth century AD by Arab invaders.
This Girgentana goat breed’s name derives from Girgenti, the title of Agrigento in Sicilian language.
There were over 30,000 goats offered from the province’s mountains and coastal zone. The Girgentana goat is rare and at risk of disappearance, today.
The total population of this Girgentana goat was estimated at the end of 1993 at 524.
And 390 goats were enrolled at the end of 2013. And in the year of 2007, the conservation status of the strain was listed as”endangered” by the FAO.
The strain is one of those eight most autochthonous Italian goat breeds for which a genealogical herdbook is kept by the Associazione Nazionale Della Pastoriziathe national association of sheep-breeders.
The strain is dispersed via Sicily, Italy and Western Europe.
