Karayaka sheep are small-sized sheep that are white in color with black eyes, head, and legs. But 10% of them are black.

The mature Karayaka ram weighs 50 kg (110 lb) and ewe weighs 35 kg (77 lb).

The height of mature ram is 65 cm at withers and ewe is 60cm at withers.

Rams are horned and ewes are polled.

The fleece weight is around 1.8 to 2.5 kg with a staple length of 21 to 28 cm and a fiber diameter of 39 to 43 microns.

The wool is used to make traditional mattresses as they are coarse.

According to slowfood – ” White Karataka sheep have two types: Çakrak and Karagöz. In the Çakrak individuals, the head, ears, legs, and tail are colored. The Karagöz, which is more numerous, has black marks around eyes and mouth and on the legs. Additionally, it is more resistant to cold than Çakrak. The Çakrak is larger than the Karagöz.

Milk yield is not that great, but the meat is in high demand. The number of Karataka sheep is just 8000,000.
