The Murnau-Werdenfels cattle are an old breed of cows from Upper Bavaria, the southernmost part of Germany.
It is a robust dairy cattle breed which is increased mainly for milk production.
The strain originated in Tyrol, Austria and it is closely related to Braunvieh, Brown Swiss and Tyrolese Grey cattle.
Today it’s in danger of extinction and a rare breed, with seeds from around eleven bulls and only around 130 cows at the herdbook.
Murnau-Werdenfels Cattle breed information
Murnau-Werdenfels cattle are medium sized animals. They are largely of colored.
However, there are excellent color variants from straw-yellow to reddish brown.
They have a muzzle, and a white rim is around the muzzle. Their hooves and horn tips are of black color. Both bulls and cows have horns.
Typical height of this Murnau-Werdenfels bulls is all about 138-145 cm, also also 128-130 cm for those cows.
The cow’s weight between 500 and 600 kg. And typical dwell bodyweight of the bulls ranges from 850 to 950 kg.
Murnau-Werdenfels Cattle benefits
Murnau-Werdenfels cows are a dairy cows strain. They are primarily useful for milk production.
The Murnau-Werdenfels cattle are very long lived animals and fertile.
They are especially adapted to a husbandry from arenas of Germany.
The cows are milk producers. They can produce 4300 kg of milk each year around.
Their milk contain about 3.4 percent protein and roughly 3.8 percent fat. The animals may be used for the creation of beef.
Previously it had been an important cattle breed and was a wonderful source of revenue for its tiny farms.
Presently the main breeding area of the Murnau-Werdenfels cattle is approximately Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Murnau which can also be known as”Werdenfels Country”.
At the year of 2007, the Society for the Conservation of Old and Endangered Livestock Breeds voted the strain Endangered Breed.
The Federal State of Bavaria maintains A suckler herd of cows and a sperm bank. And in addition, it provides support to the breeders to maintaining these creatures.
The Murnau-Werdenfels cattle are also a part of this Ark of Taste of the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity.
The foundation is dedicated to the claiming of agricultural heritage.
