Peacock goat is a moderate-sized animal that is mostly white with black boots. While half of their body is black. It’s a thick coating of hair.
The Peacock goat contains dark and horns from the base of the horn, directly over the eyes and into the nose.
The inside of the area around the mouth and also the ears are dark.
On Peacock bucks that are adult that is average weight about 75 kg. Along with also a mature doe weight roughly 56 kg.
Peacock goat benefits
Peacock goats are primarily kept for their milk production. The strain is not one of the dairy goat breeds but generates meat as most mountain goat strains. It is also pretty good for meat production.
The Peacock goats are very attractive creatures.
They are very hardy and busy.
They therefore so are weather-resistant and are quite comfy in mountain pastures. They are quite friendly and docile in temperament.
They don’t need a large number of excellent food to stay healthy, and also could live on low-quality forages.
Origin and History
Actually the breed is in Upper Tessin in Switzerland and the cantons of Graubünden. Very little information is known about the specific source of the Peacock goat. But the strain was discovered in 1887, under the title Prätttigau Goat.
They have dark stains and stripes that are dark in the base of their horn over the eyes into the nose.
Pfaven or these stripes gave the breed the name of it after the discovery. However, because of a spelling mistake of a journalist that the breed was called the Peacock goat.
This strain was reported by that journalist since Pfauenziege peacock goat, rather than Pfavenziege striped goat.
The Peacock goat can also be called by various other titles like the Gray-black goat, the Gray-black-white goat, Razza Naz, Colomba and Pfauenziege in German.
Farmers of Switzerland have been increasing small amounts of Peacock goat for many years. However, the breed was not officially admitted until 1992. Peacock goat herd book was established.
The Peacock Goat Breeding Association was set up in 1989. An interest society was set in 1992, and in 1993 a breeder’s marriage was founded in Switzerland.
An association was founded in 1994 from the canton Beru, and also a much more recent one also continues in Graubünden (according to the Department of Animal Science, Oklahoma State University).
Once the Peacock goat was set on the domestic monster breed’s listing. But we hope as breeders association and organizations are still working for preserving this breed, the number of this beautiful goat strain increases gradually.
