The Pustertaler Sprinzen cows are a rare strain of cattle native to the Puster Valley in the south east-west and west of Tyrol.
Pustertaler Sprinzen cows are moderate-sized animals. They are finched and color-sided. They are generally white with chestnut-brown to light black or brown plaques on the flanks which split into little spots at the margins.
Both cows and bulls normally have short forward-pointing horns or spreading. The ears the muzzle and the area around the eyes have been colored.
The cows on an average weight of approximately 500-650 kg. And typical body fat of the bulls is approximately 800-900 kg.
Pustertaler Sprinzen Cattle Benefits
The Pustertaler Sprinzen cattle are acceptable for both milk and meat production. But currently, they are used for meat production.
Pustertaler Sprinzen cows are hard and robust animals. They’re famous for endurance and their calving.
When compared to other breeds, the Pustertaler Sprinzen Trainers tend to be lively, with a high weight increase when fed on basic rations. Milk production of the cows increases with each lactation period.
The strain is also known for it’s very good quality meat. Today the breed is thought of as a rare strain. And there are far fewer than 500 Pustertaler Sprinzen cattle. And the Majority of the inhabitants have been in the South Tyrol and Austria.
History
The breed is known as Pustertaler Schecken or even Pustertaler.
Even the Puster Valley is at the autonomous province of Bolzano, currently in north-eastern Italy.
As stated by the genetic research carried out in 2001, the Barà strain of the state of Turin to be closely similar to the Pustertaler. And since 2002 that the 2 populations have been treated and registered as a single breed.
The Pustertaler Sprinzen cattle breed is one of those sixteen small Italian cows breeds of restricted diffusion recognized and protected by the Ministero Delle Politiche Agricole Alimentari e Forestali, the Italian Ministry of agriculture.
The strain originated from a place that includes the Pustertal and it’s tributary valleys and the eastern areas of the Eisacktal or even Isarco valley.
Pustertaler Sprinzen cattle breed was probably developed by crossing Eastern Herens (Eringer) with nearby cattle breeds. Currently, the strain is pretty rare now and mainly reared in Austria, Germany, Italy, and South Africa.
