Sahelian goat breed facts

The Sahelian goat is a multipurpose goat breed. It is good for leather manufacturing, an excellent meat goat breed, and also quite rarely raised for milk.

Sahelian goats are very powerful and hardy animals. They’re well adapted to the desert surroundings.

First kidding happens generally about 18 months old. And the does will create a couple of children per kidding.

The Sahelian does mostly produce 1 kid (almost 70 percent), and their own lactation period is usually 5-6 months.

Sahelian goat is a tiny sized creature. They are slim in appearance with sloping croup that is short, shallow torso, and narrow body.

They have hair that is stiff using a variety of colors. Their color varies from white, cream to black, red or grey stripes or pied, gray, black, black, or brown. They have long legs, and ears that are semi-pendulous or even pendent.

The Sahelian goat is suited to desert or semi-desert environments and can be intolerant of areas with high humidity.

The breed is widely dispersed in the arid and semi-arid regions of the Sahel and north of this 12°N parallel in fundamental Chad in the east to the Atlantic coast in the west and well to the southern Sahara.

This is the place, where the majority of the world goats are available.

Even though some amounts of this goat breed can also be found elsewhere on the planet.

Especially in areas where conditions or suitable environments are available, such as Australia.

The Sahelian goat isn’t a goat strain that is trypan-tolerant. And they do not survive for long in forest and compact Savannah.

They are quite strong animals which are found and live in desert surroundings. And they are especially well-adapted into life and may feed on various vegetation found within their areas.
