The title of the strain “Simmental” derived from the name of the region where they were initially filmed, the Simme Valley that is located in the Berner Oberland in Switzerland.
Early records indicate that the Simmental cows were really the end result of a cross between big cattle from Germany plus also a smaller breed native to Switzerland.
Though it is an older breed, however, the first herd book was created in the Swiss Canton of Berne in 1806. And at the year of 1890, The Swiss Red and White Spotted Simmental Cattle Association was formed.
